- U.S. Consulate Ponta Delgada joined the Azores
Operational Command to support the Conference “The Azores in the Geopolitics of
the Atlantic” at the University of the Azores February 25-26.
U.S. Speaker Paul D. Taylor, a
Professor at the Naval War College and former U.S. Ambassador, delivered what
proved to be the Conference’s defining paper, “Maritime Cooperation in a
Changing Strategic Environment,” highlighting that international partnerships
drawing on timely regional expertise will be essential to protecting global
interests in the future.
The Conference, well-attended by
foreign policy experts, graduate students, current and former Portuguese
military officers, and many from the general public, reaffirmed the Azores’
centrality in the historically strong U.S.-Portuguese partnership based on
shared cultural values and strategic interests.
