Feb. 24, 2010 - Public Affairs Officer Abby Dressel and Fulbright Portugal Executive Director Otília Reis joined Principal Officer Gavin Sundwall to bring celebration of the Fulbright Program’s 50th Anniversary to Portugal’s Azores autonomous region. In a February 24 ceremony at the University of the Azores’ Ponta Delgada campus, PAO Dressel and Executive Director Reis marked the milestone as a strong symbol of the historically close relationship between Portugal and the United states.

At a reception following the ceremony, Principal Officer Sundwall noted that participants in exchange programs such as Fulbright are essential in enhancing understanding and cooperation to realize a better future for the people of Portugal, the United States, the Azores region, and the world. Since its inception, more than 2,000 Portuguese citizens have participated in the Fulbright program.
