Consulate Walks to Raise Breast Cancer Awareness

Consul Gavin Sundwall joined the walk against breast cancer

Oct. 24, 2009 - U.S. Consulate staff and families joined more than 1,000 Azoreans in Ponta Delgada October 24 to support the “Walk Around the World for Breast Cancer,” sponsored by Avon, the Mayor’s office, and other companies.

The 3K walk helped raise awareness and marked the donation of high-tech mammogram equipment by Avon Portugal to the Ponta Delgada Hospital. In remarks carried by Azorean television newscasts, Principal Officer Gavin Sundwall said he and the Consulate staff were proud to walk alongside the people of the Azores to support women in Portugal, the United States, and worldwide in the fight against breast cancer.
