U.S. Consulate Sponsors Daniel Pearl Tribute Concert at Local School

Nov. 2, 2009 - U.S. Consulate Ponta Delgada sponsored a “Harmony for Humanity” tribute concert November 2 at the K-12 Escola Básica Integrada in Arrifes on the island of São Miguel. Each year, the U.S. Department of State assists the Daniel Pearl Foundation in organizing “World Music Days” in honor of slain American journalist Daniel Pearl.

David Ballard, Chargé D’Affaires of U.S. Embassy Lisbon, attended, donating books in English to the school before the popular University of the Azores musical group “Tunídeos” performed for more than two hundred students, faculty, invited guests, and media. In his introduction, Principal Officer Gavin Sundwall noted that concerts like the one in Arrifes keep Daniel’s spirit alive, fostering greater understanding and community around the world through music.
