U.S. Consulate Celebrates Halloween at Primary School

Consul Gavin Sundwall celebrating Halloween with Azorean students.

Oct. 29, 2009 - Consulate staff donned their best Halloween costumes October 29 to share a bit of Americana with K–4 students at the Escola Primária Marquês Jácome Correia in Lagoa on the island of São Miguel.

Students and teachers used the event to promote the study of English and learn more about the United States, participating in a pumpkin carving contest and pumpkin bake-off, dressing up in costumes, and singing two Halloween songs in English.

The Consulate rewarded the students’ impressive effort with trick-or-treat bags and donated books in English for the school’s library, giving contest winners their own book! All involved had a great time sharing this U.S. cultural tradition with young people in the Azores
.
